Last year at Makerere University, a fresh boy who reported at the institution with a metallic suitcase together with his other property in a kikapu (plastic bag) and his pictures went viral on different social media platforms after a fellow student sought to ridicule him. The little boy was later identified as Henry Ssuubi Kiyimba.
However, what seemed to be a shame initially, opened chances for him. Many good Samaritans came out to start changing his lifestyle at Makerere University by giving him free goodies like an iPhone, paying meals and he was also given an opportunity to change from a course which he was admitted on (Bachelor of Science in Education) to Mechanical Engineering on full scholarship.
Makerere university guild president Julius Kateregga appointed Ssubi as the new chief fresher. Having gained insights of how the house is run, Ssuubi has shown interests of contesting on another bigger position in the GRC parliament.
He is contesting as the Guild Representative Councilor (GRC) of the School of Engineering at the College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology (CEDAT) in the forthcoming 86th guild elections.
Ssuubi say that he wants to use the opportunity to advocate for the disadvantaged at Makerere and hopes to use the guild house to air out the voice of the less privileged students both at Makerere and in Uganda at large.
