A youthful and fine-looking internet user identified as Lilian Nsiima left her friends surprised after she revealed that a very huge price tag was attached to her pursuit for a bachelor’s degree.
Claiming to be Hon Janet Museveni’s last born, this lady unveiled her photo through twitter dressed in a gown further captioning that almost 100 cows were sold for her to fully accomplish her degree at Makerere University.
Her friends couldn’t let the revelation pass as they poured bunches of assorted reactions in her replies section.
A one Julius Mwesigwa posed a question asking: Why would I sell anything yet the schools offer bursaries and scholarships to students?
Another friend to Nsiimas hoped that that degree will be worth the 100 cows, now that she has accomplished her studies.
To break it down, a cow approximately goes for Ugx 1 Million shillings. As Nsiima states, she could have spent over 70 Million (which is literally almost the price of 100 cows)
There could be quite a debate about the total sum of cash is injected into higher education. On the average, Ugx 7.5 Million is spent on a 3 year programme, excluding hostel and upkeep affairs. For a programme more than three (3) years, the total amount is averagely estimated at Ugx 9 million.
After spending all the millions on these courses, the biggest dilemma that kicks in, is the outcome following the completion of the programme; as many are left hanging in balance regarding employment status.
Could this be blamed on Universities for offering non-marketable courses or the frustrating economy in the country?
Over to you dear readers, how many ‘cows’ did you spend to get a degree?
