Robert Sentamu Kyagulanyi popularly known as Bobi Wine, a first year law student at International University of East Africa (IUEA) has overwhelmingly been elected Member of Parliament (MP) to represent Kyadondo East in the nation’s legislature.
The student, artist, businessman and now politician ran as an independent candidate using a clock as his voting symbol.
Bobi Wine, who even shaved his head clean of the usual dreadlocks in the build up to the re-election was a clear favourite from the start of the campaigns.
He hinged his message on his background as a ghetto boy to reflect his position to best hold the interests of the common man and represent them in the August House.
Out of the 33,310 ballots cast, Bobi Wine polled 25,659 which is just 3% shy of a landslide 80% win. His closest rival was National Resistance Movement (NRM)’s Sitenda Sebalu with 4,566.
Bobi Wine joins gospel artist Judith Babirye in the House.
The MP elect graduated with a degree in Music, Dance and Drama from Makerere University and is now persuing a Bachelor of Laws at IUEA.
Student leaders country-over openly came out to show support to his candidature on his campaign rallies and on social media.
They include among others former Makerere guild presidents Ivan Bwowe and Roy Ssemboga, former Makerere guild Speaker Chark Benson and current MAK guild speaker Jothan Burobuto.
They said his candidature represented youthful ideas and their plight as students and youth was very well represented.
