The Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) has reportedly hinted on punishing students with ‘dead Years’ for failure to attend and participate in online lectures, Campus Bee has learned.
The institution kicked off a new semester virtually on July 5, but majority of students have since had difficulty making up to these online classes.
A source at the institution revealed to Campus Bee that marks will be awarded basing on continuous assessment, meaning only students who are attending the online classes will get these marks; leaving the rest out.
The students affected by this mode of awarding marks have expressed bitterness saying the move will automatically put them into a dead year situation.
“We have raised our complaints over this matter but the only response we get is; ‘in this world people will never be equal, those who can afford will attend and those who can’t will wait until schools reopen and re-sit’ ” one of the frustrated students told Campus Bee.
“Honestly this is an agreement by the administration reached about without the consultation of the students.” The student added.
Our source at this institution confirmed that a large number of students have been left behind with this mode of online learning. He ponders about what it would really mean if the university graduates on estimate 20 out of 350 in a class.
Late registration for students at the institution is slated for this month on 29th
Upon physical resumption of the institution, resident students will have to pay UGX 3,500 daily for the days they will be there, Campus Bee has learned.
