As the Election Day approaches at Uganda’s second largest University, our hive has learnt that the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) party flag bearer, Ochola David Omiel, has allegedly joined the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) camp to add on their tally of votes.
According to sources close to Nduwayo Mugisha Trust, the FDC flag bearer, Ochola David decided to join their camp after the chaos that happened on Sunday which he claims was caused by outsiders who are infiltrated in the People Power camp. However our struggle to reach Ochola David were futile as it was hard to locate where he was while all his phones were off.
It should be remembered that last week, two guild candidates including Markmot Daniel joined the People Power camp.
The Kyambogo University campaigns turned chaotic on Sunday 15th March when camps started hurling stones at each other. Seething anger could be seen marked on many of the faces in different camps. This prompted the top administration to tip in security which ushered in teargas and live bullets to bring order.
It is on the same fateful Sunday 15th March that Mugisha Trust sustained a heavy injury on the head that was caused while the FDC and people power camps were hurling stones at each other. He was seen around campus with a bandage on his head that showed some blood stains brooding inside.
Many students sustained injuries in the Sunday fracas and are still admitted at the medical center and Nsambya hospital.
The FDC and NRM camp claim that the people power camp brought in outsiders who unleashed heavy beatings on them and therefore had no option but to retaliate.
On Sunday, Kateregga Julius, the current guild president of Makerere was seen within the Kyambogo University premises, campaigning for Mbaziira John, a People Power flag bearer. Kateregga however informed us that he was not at Kyambogo University as a Makerere University guild president.
“I’m here in the capacity of people power coordinator for all institutions in Kampala Metropolitan Area.” He said. Sources revealed to us that he was captured at Kulubya hall and given a good beating by the FDC camp.
The Election Day was postponed again to Thursday 19th March after an earlier postponement to Tuesday 17th March. The second postponement came after the candidates failed to abide by the directive from the dean of students not to put any party emblem on their photos that were meant to appear on the ballot papers.
We shall keep you posted about all that happens in this hotly contested election.
