Kyambogo University Vice Chancellor Prof. Eli Katunguka has finally broken the silence regarding the outbreak of COVID-19 at the Banda-based university. In a statement dated 26th May 2021, Katunguka revealed that so far six students and two administrative staff have tested positive for the deadly COVID-19.
Katunguka, who fears that the situation could have gotten worse if they didn’t stop students from attending lectures physically also revealed that many students have cough and flue while others have refused to get tested.
“We have received information from the Director of Medical Services at our medical centre that there are increasing cases of COVID-19 infections in the University. So far six (6) students and two (2) administrative staff have tested positive,” His statement reads in part.
Katunguka further urged lecturers to engage students online following a spike in COVID-19 cases in the university.
“I therefore want to urge all deans and heads of departments to engage students through ODeL as planned and shown in the school’s schedule released by the academic register.” The statement reads further.
As COVID-19 cases continue to increase in the country, the Ministry of Health last week reopened the COVID-19 isolation and treatment center in Mulago which had been closed due to low cases since February.
