Diploma and certificate holders eyeing a degree at Kyambogo University can now check their fate. The Office of the Academic Registrar has released the Provisional Admission Lists for applicants admitted under the Diploma/Certificate Entry Scheme for the 2026/2027 academic year, covering both government and private sponsorship.
The lists, prepared by Academic Registrar Dr. Annie Begumisa and approved by the Chairperson of the KyU Admissions Board, cater to students joining the university through the diploma/certificate route — a pathway that allows holders of relevant diplomas and certificates to upgrade into bachelor’s degree programmes, often entering directly into Year 2 or Year 3.
Engineering Dominates the Intake
A striking feature of this year’s admissions is the sheer strength of the engineering and technology programmes, which fill much of the list — particularly on the private sponsorship side, which runs to 61 pages.
Programmes admitting large numbers include Electrical Engineering (day and evening streams), Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, Civil and Building Engineering, Automotive and Power Engineering, Environmental Engineering and Management, and Telecommunications Engineering. The university also admitted students into specialised and emerging fields such as Mechatronics and Biomedical Engineering, Oil and Gas Engineering and Production, Biosystems, and Chemical and Process Engineering.
Beyond Engineering
The intake stretches well beyond the technical faculties. Substantial numbers were admitted into business and management courses including Business Administration, Accounting and Finance, Procurement and Logistics Management, and Banking and Microfinance.
The lists also feature strong cohorts in education-focused programmes — notably the Diploma in Technical Teacher Education (DITTE), which admitted dozens of students, alongside Bachelor of Education (Primary), Pre-Primary Education, and Special Needs Education. Other admitted areas include Library and Information Science, Information Technology and Computing, Art and Design, Architecture, Land Economics, Surveying, and various science technology programmes.
Reflecting Kyambogo’s identity as a hub for inclusive and vocational education, the lists also include the Diploma in Sign Language Interpreting, Community Based Rehabilitation, and Fashion and Apparel Design.
While the overwhelming majority of admitted candidates are Ugandan, the lists also feature a handful of international students — including applicants from South Sudan, Kenya, and India — underscoring the university’s growing regional appeal.

What to Do Next
For successful candidates, the release marks the start of the journey — but it’s a provisional list, and the real work begins now. The university has advised applicants to regularly check the KyU website for updates on admission letters, registration, and reporting dates for the 2026/2027 academic year.
The advice is simple: find your name and form ID on the correct list (government or private), confirm your programme and entry year, and stay alert for the next round of communication on collecting your admission letter and registering.
For thousands of diploma and certificate holders across Uganda, this is the moment a technical qualification opens the door to a full university degree.
