The Law Development Centre (LDC) in Kampala has postponed the Legal Practice Skills II examination that was scheduled for today Wednesday 19th May after the Chief Examiner confirmed that a number of students had smuggled prohibited materials into the examination rooms.
According to a statement issued by Annette Mutabingwa, the Head Bar Course at LCD, students had smuggled prohibited materials like phones, notes, handouts into the examination rooms, leaving the Centre with no option but to cancel the whole examination.
Mutabingwa’s statement further explains that examination malpractice is a clear violation of the rules governing the Bar Course 2020. She added that the above conduct amounts to dishonesty and an abuse of their decision to allow some materials in the examination.
She further postponed all category B examinations across all the three LDC campuses explaining that they will be conducted in June in accordance with the academic calendar for the second intake.
“All category B examinations are hereby postponed and will be conducted in the week of 28th June in accordance with the academic calendar for the second intake. The detailed timetable (for all the 3 campuses) will be issued in due course,” Part of the statement reads.
Mutabingwa further vowed to strictly apply Rule 24(12) of the rules governing the Bar Course ahead of the rescheduled examinations. With the approval of the Chief Examiner, the Department is set to issue appropriate guidelines on permissible materials for the rescheduled exams.
