Makerere University’s Dean of students Cyriaco Kabagambe has officially come out to dismiss allegations that he was involved in a shs 5.6 Million bribery scandal, which he allegedly solicited from a student, Ronald Ainebyona, who was vying for the position of guild president.
According to Ainebyona, the Dean of students connived with the Electoral Commission to deny him nomination after taking his shs5.6m. In his latest briefing to the media, Kabagambe has revealed that allegations made by Ainebyona are baseless, and are aimed at tarnishing his image and that of the University.
“I would like to clarify that I did not solicit any money from any student during the entire guild electoral process. The allegations being made about me are empty, untrue and hopeless,” Kabagambe told the media.
Apparently, Kabagambe’s first attempt to brief the media regarding this matter did not go well because of Ainebyona’s misconduct. It is said that Ainebyona stormed the venue where Kabagambe was speaking to the media and disorganized the process, “When the media came to crosscheck the information with me, Mr. Ainebyoona stormed into the room where I was talking to the media and interrupted the meeting, denying me the opportunity to clarify on the matter,” says Mr Kabagambe.
Mr Kabagambe also reveaeled how Ainebyona reached out to him earlier seeking for advice explaining how he had gotten many retakes, something that would not allow him to run for guild presidency. “When he told me he had retakes, I advised him to study hard, clear the retakes and apply to stand for guild president when the next opportunity came. Since that time, he went silent until he came to my office claiming that the electoral commission had taken his money and refused to include him on the list of successful candidates.” Kabagambe cleared the air.
