Makerere University School of Public Health on Wednesday donated solar panel systems and computers worth Shs 200m to 19 health facilities in Kabarole district to track HIV/AIDS data through the Monitoring and Evaluation Technical Support (METS) program a 5-year program funded by the Carrier Development Center (CDC) in collaboration with MukSPH, the University of California San Francisco and the Ugandan Ministry of Health.
The equipment was delivered at the district medical stores in Mucwa, Fort Portal by a team led by Dr. Edgar Kansiime, the Project Coordinator of METS HIV Case Based Surveillance (CBS) Program.
The equipment that was delivered will benefit Health Center III facilities; Kiyombya, Kabonero, Kasenda, Kisomoro, Kabende, Kiko, Kidubuli, Kakinga, Irihura, Kicwamba, Nyabuswa, Nyantaboma, Rwagimba, Rambia, Kibaate, Bukuuku, Kabarole hospital and Fort Portal referral hospital.
Dr Kansiime disclosed that the solar panels and computers that have been donated to the Health Center IIIs will help to reach areas to ease the retrieval of HIV/AIDS data, tracking cases and follow up HIV/AIDS patients so that they can receive proper treatment.
“This program was initiated to improve the understanding of disease burden, incidence, loss of follow-up, integration, linkages and referral services across interventions and facilities; to minimize missed opportunities in the comprehensive care and treatment of HIV/AIDS related illnesses”, he added
