A student at the Makerere University College of Computing and Information Science (COCIS), names withheld due to the wrath his parents could unleash upon him, placed a stake of Six Hundred thousand Ugandan shillings on a football game which he later lost.

The day which started normally at the Makerere hill turned unpleasant when this student felt he needed more money to impress his girlfriend and be her sole provider. So he moved from the soccer prediction ‘experts’ who advised him to stake on the game between Liverpool and West Ham but was to bet in favor of Liverpool.

Unfortunately, as the 90-minute mark struck, this poor fella was shocked to see Liverpool draw which left him momentarily paralyzed and he later came back to his senses.

Having realized there was no return journey, this student resorted to selling off his room space at the University Hall of Residence to get back his money which was meant for meals, functional fees and shopping. He swore never to bet again till he sees his grave.
Advice to students: Betting is addictive and always remember to bet wisely. Bet what you can afford to lose to avoid depression and this will also help you stay focused in school.
