Ssebaggala Stuart, 23, who scored a CGPA of 4.66 to emerge the best student in the Bachelor of Community Psychology programme at Makerere University seems not to be bothered by the university’s move to scrap his course. Community Psychology is among the programmes listed by Makerere University ahead of restructuring.
According to Ssebagala, Psychology is an internationally recognized and respected programme with great potential to transform the world.
Ssebaggala attributes his success to his family, lecturers and friends but above all God who made it possible for them to contribute towards his success. The 23 year old graduand studied Geography, History, Luganda and ICT at A’ Level which inspired him to study Psychology from the desire to understand how a human mind operates.
The yet to graduate student had wished to study Law or at least business courses, but things turned out differently. He disclosed that he does not regret studying Community Psychology explaining that the knowledge and skills acquired through the programme expose students to a broad range of employment opportunities.
Ssebagala plans to use his First Class degree as a firm foundation to pursue further studies and establish himself as a prolific academic and researcher in the field of Mental Health. After securing his degree come May 2021, Ssebaggala will enroll for a Masters and later a PhD in Clinical and Neuro Psychology and wishes to have secured his doctorate by the age of 30.
