Waidembe Yusufu, a Makerere University student pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Education has tasked the university’s Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic Affairs) Umar Kakumba to intervene and respond about the alleged ongoing online lectures, which he claims are not real.
According to Waidembe, the university claims that continuing students and finalists started online lectures on 8th February but he has never received a single online lecture ever since. Waidembe addressed a number of issues in a letter addressed to Kakumba and further tasked him to intervene.
“Since 8th February, I have never attended any lectures online for my respective course units,” Waidembe wrote.
While talking about the university’s e-learning platform, MUELE, Waidembe informed Kakumba that he was only able to enroll for one course unit out of the nine he is supposed to undertake. The disgruntled student further explained that even the one course unit he was able to enroll for has not been provided with work to present day.
“My worry and great concern is that by the end of the semester, lecturers will set standard papers which may not favour our progression. No wonder some of my colleagues don’t even know the course units they are meant to do this semester,” Waidembe’s letter reads further.
Waidembe also highlighted on the university’s failure to publish students’ end of semester results as promised when they are admitted. The Bachelor of Education student revealed that during his orientation back in 2019, the university promised that his marks would be ready on his student portal but it has not happed as promised.
Apparently, he has only received results for two course units, which he did in first year.
