In a statement released by Muhwezi Joshua Lawel, the Makerere University Guild Information Minister, the university’s Academics and Appeals Committee is currently discussing on the introduction of a new examination system.
According to Muhwezi, the new system will comprise of amendments where course work will be contributing 60% of a students’ end of semester marks while the final examinations will contribute only 40%.
Apparently, Makerere students are expected to give their opinions to their respective GRCs regarding the new system before it is approved by.
“The other proposal is of the conceded pass , where a finalist who gets from 45-49% can compensate the remaining mark to make it 50% from another well passed course unit , students are expected to give their opinions to their respective GRCs before the committe approves these proposals.” Part of Muhwezi’s statement reads.
This has come few days ahead of the Education Committee of Parliament’s visit to Makerere University which is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, 26th November. The committee’s visit is part of their investigation on what led to the outbreak of a demonstration against the 15% tuition increment.
