Kiryowa Kiwanuka, a Ugandan lawyer, businessman and politician who is also one of the members of the Makerere University Council has been appointed Attorney General of Uganda. Kiwanuka, who is set to eat with a “big spoon” in Cabinet was appointed to that position on 8 June 2021 replacing William Byaruhanga who was dropped by President Museveni from cabinet.
Kiwanuka is among the new Cabinet members that are set to assume office following President Museveni’s appointment. According to the Cabinet list issued by the Presidential Press Unit (PPU), Museveni has named 32 cabinet ministers and 50 state ministers.
Kiwanuka graduated from Makerere University with a Bachelor of Laws degree who later attended the Law Development Centre before graduating with a Diploma in Legal Practice. Kiwanuka also holds a degree of Master of Laws in Petroleum Law and Policy from the University of Dundee in Scotland.
Kiwanuka also doubles as a founding partner at K&K Advocates formerly Kiwanuka and Karugire Advocates, a privately owned law firm. Kiwanuka has been serving on the board of directors of the Petroleum Authority of Uganda since 2015.
He attended Budo Junior School for his elementary school who was later transferred to Kings College Budo for his O-Level studies. He studied at Makerere College School for his A-level studies before he was admitted to Makerere University in 1993 to study law.
