Academic staff at Makerere University have protested the search process for Deputy Vice Chancellor – Finance and Administration which was scheduled to take place during the countrywide lockdown and University closure.
According to Deus Kamunyu, the Makerere University Academic Staff Association (MUASA) Chairperson, carrying out the process during the lockdown is unfair to some staff who may be interested in the position but are unable to make it to the University, especially those locked up in border districts.
The staff are also protesting the method through which the search committee was selected, accusing the University Vice Chancellor, Prof Barnabas Nawangwe for steering the whole activity.
Prof Nawangwe spoke out on the whole matter, attributing the root cause of the confusion to the new and old search committees which were appointed by the Senate.
