The latest news coming from Makerere University indicates that ‘online exams’ which were in the pipeline for continuing students at the institution, have been called off over limitations towards the learners.
The call off comes at a time when students are in a fuss of preparation for the said exams after over 1 month of campus closure and little academic activity.
The said assessments had initially been slated to take place from September 6 running to September 24, according to the University’s Vice Chancellor – Prof Barnabas Nawangwe. This was in aim to accomplish the set of exams which continuing students were sitting at the time schools were closed in June this year.
“We are making arrangements for alternative assessment methods, the colleges are also working on this and you will be informed as soon as possible,” Prof Nawangwe said earlier
A source at the university who preferred anonymity intimated to this website that Makerere University Council has always been in contrast to online exams over impracticality.
“Makerere hasn’t yet built the requisite capacity and infrastructure to hold online exams. It’s a huge dilemma and there’s been structural difficulty in harmonizing the Modus operandi for these exams across the Hill.” the source revealed.
Government has promised a reopening plan for schools across the country before the end of the year, however, there is no specific resumption date so far until vaccination is intensified.
