In a letter dated 14th July addressed to all College Principals, the Makerere University Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic Affairs) Umar Kakumba revealed that the university is set for online exams shortly after staff capacity development efforts in conducting exams virtually.
According to Kakumba, the university successfully completed teaching for semester 1 academic year 2020/2021. The letter adds that the Institution had just finished the first tranche of semester 1 examinations and the COVID-19 situation worsened before conducting the second tranche.
Kakumba’s office reportedly commissioned a study to establish the efficiency of the emergency Open Distance E-Learning (ODEL) system that the university had deployed from October 2020.
The Deputy Vice Chancellor further tasked all Colleges to prepare for training on conducting online exams. The training will start on 27th July 2021 ahead of planned online exams.
“The first module (conducting online assessments and examinations using MUELE) will start on Tuesday,27th July 2021 from 9:00am to 12:00pm. The IODEL will send out an electronic form for registration. You all encouraged to participate in these trainings aimed at Making our university resilient and our academic work sustainable.” The letter reads in part.
During this training, lecturers will be tipped on holding online exams, using online platforms like zoom, among others.
