The family of the late Moses Kalangwa has spoken out against what they describe as painful and insensitive reactions on social media following his death.
In an emotional message, one of Kalangwa’s daughters expressed heartbreak over people allegedly celebrating and mocking her father online despite the impact she says he had on many lives while alive.
“Those celebrating our father’s death, may God judge you,” she said. “It’s painful to see people mocking a man who helped many while alive.”
The family says they have been deeply hurt and disappointed by some of the comments circulating on social media since news of Kalangwa’s passing emerged.
Meanwhile, Kalangwa’s widow also shared an emotional account of the difficult days leading up to the burial arrangements, revealing her fears that their son, who studies in Canada, might fail to arrive in time to bid farewell to his father.
“My son studies in Canada, and his flight was delayed,” she said emotionally. “I was deeply worried that we would bury my husband before he arrived. It would have broken my heart for him to miss his own father’s burial.”
Her remarks moved mourners during the funeral proceedings, with many sympathizing with the family’s grief and the emotional toll of losing a loved one under public scrutiny.
Friends and supporters of the late Kalangwa have since called for compassion and respect toward grieving families, urging the public to avoid turning moments of mourning into ridicule online.
Kalangwa, who served as an NRM chairman and was known within political circles, is remembered by supporters as a man who contributed to his community and supported many people throughout his lifetime.
His death has continued to spark mixed reactions online, highlighting the growing debate around social media conduct during periods of national and family mourning.
