Earlier this week, the Church of Uganda through Archbishop Dr. Stephen Kazimba Mugalu who also doubles as the Chancellor for Uganda Christian University (UCU) donated food relief (28,250 kilograms of maize flour and 500kg of beans) to the government towards the COVID-19 emergency response program to feed the vulnerable people.
However, this did not go down well with the Mukono Municipality Member of Parliament Hon. Betty Nambooze Bakireke who expressed concern over Church of Uganda’s act of donating food relief to the COVID-19 National Task Force when casual workers at its university (UCU) are starving.
She revealed that she has been receiving requests from UCU workers pleading for food which had her wondering why Church of Uganda had to donate food worth millions of shillings to government when its workers are not having food.
“I was meditating as I finished there was someone at the gate to deliver a petition from the hungry workers of UCU! The causal workers from UCU are petitioning my office for food, they are starving with their families! Interestingly the Church of Uganda picked food worth millions of money and donated it to the National Task force. Who goes to donate food to be praised when people in his home are dying of hunger,” Hon. Nambooze asked.
In the Parliament of the Republic of Uganda, Hon Nambooze represents Mukono Municipality where UCU main campus is located.
