Among these universities is Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) whose Sports Finance Minister allegedly mishandled funds of the participants.
“Right away from day 1 which was Saturday the day of departure, the university Sports Finance Minister Genesis Atukunda together with the sports tutor Mr. Alex started mishandling funds of the participants by accounting a double sum of money for the food that they ate at one of the restaurants at campus. A plate of food at this restaurant is Shs 3000 per plate but they accounted for 8K per plate and none of the students complained.” One of the MUST students at the games told Campus Bee.
The student further revealed that what hurts the participants the most, is that every team that participated from the different universities was given fresh kits but only the Mbarara University team lacked kits, yet according to him, the money was collected by the said Sports Finance Minister.
He allegedly accounted for Shs 30000 per shirt yet the standard is Shs 20000 plus the embroidery and that this has made the participants lose moral.
“When you’re at the court, the supporters cheer their teams while saying that MUST should lose because they even have no uniform.” The student ranted.
The student said that his colleagues that play badminton have not been adequately catered for because their games are not at the University of Kisubi and are played further in Entebbe. He says no transport facilitation has been availed to them and they incur their own cost to travel for the games everyday.
We could not get a statement from the accused parties as their known contacts were still switched off by press time. The inter university games are ending tomorrow on Friday, 20th December.
