Dr Brian Musaga from the department of Planning and Applied Statistics, School of Statistics and Applied Economics in the college of Business Management (COBAMS) was caught pants down on Sunday night with a third year student, Nana Kayesu, 21, who is pursuing a Bachelors of Science in Business degree.
Musaga’s arrest comes after a senior lecturer in the department of Zoology, Prof Christopher Bakuneta, was remanded to Luzira Prison for allegedly raping a first year student. He appears in the High Court next month.
Sources say that Kayesu had gone to see Musaga over her final project proposal but the lecturer demanded sex instead to expedite the process and give her free project marks- the lecturer, according to the student, allegedly threatened to deliberately fail her if she refused to sleep with him. She allowed.
According to sources, the student set the lecturer up- as the two were caught having sex in A22 which happens to be the lecturer’s office. Police forced them to open the door and found the couple in stark nudity, with the lecturer fidgeting to clean himself up using his handkerchief.
His arrest follows a tip-off police officers received from reporters of NBS TV who have been investigating the sex for marks scandals that are rocking the biggest and oldest higher institution of learning in Uganda.
While recording a statement on Monday at Makerere Police post, Kayesu revealed that Musaga started demanding sex from her when she was in her second year but she kept declining.
A case of abuse of office and temporary indecent sexual harassment was opened under file number 34/29/05/16 while he remained detained at Wandegeya police station by press time. The student was released after recording a statement.
Musaga’s arrest will offer a sigh of relief to Vice Chancellor Prof Ddumba Ssentamu, who on April 4, told a media briefing at his office that his administration is working with the police to investigate allegations of moral turpitude between students and lecturers.
