More details have emerged regarding the shooting of Doribert Atwesigye, a Makerere University Law finalist who was shot over the weekend at Kabojja Hostel, Banda. Atwesigye pursued his secondary studies at Ntare School and he wasn’t a National Water and Sewerage Cooperation employee as earlier reported.
According to a source (names withheld) who works at Kabojja, the deceased slept in his car outside the hostel waiting for his girlfriend’s roommate to go out. It is said that Atwesigye later made his way into Kabojja hostel without going through the right procedures.
The source further told Campus Bee that Kiiza Alkanglo, the security officer who shot Atwesigye found him on the girlfriend’s (Ainomugishia Linnet) door before the two engaged in a bitter exchange that later led to the shooting.
“He entered and went straight to his girlfriend’s door without signing in the visitors’ book. He has been doing this but at times the guards would stop him before entering. When the askari was walking around, he found that boy on the girl’s door, I think they exchanged words before he was shot.” The source said.
“He slept in his car just here outside the hostel (points where the car was), so when he realized that his girlfriend’s roommate had stepped out, he decided to enter. I think they had agreed with the girl.” Our source added.
While speaking to the boda boda cyclist who drove the deceased to hospital, he revealed that the Banda Police O/C was the only person besides Atwesigye until the last moment of his life.
“I am the on one who drove him to hospital, he could not speak. As I was coming back, I took his car to Banda police and parked it there. ” said a boda boda cyclist who didn’t want his names to be published.
Atwesigye will be buried tomorrow in Biharwe, Mbarara District.
