The Makerere University Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof Umar Kakumba has hit Siperia Mollie the School of Psychology Guild Representative, saying she lacks the legitimacy to demonstrate against tuition increment.
While talking to members of the media yesterday, Prof Kakumba said he had done his homework on the said student leader and found out that she is a MasterCard student and as such, has her tuition fees paid by the organisation.
“Suspended Makerere student Mollie Siperia who led the strike over alleged increased tuition last week, is studying on a MasterCard scholarship.” Kakumba said while stressing his point that the students organizing the demonstration are either high on drugs or targeting positions of leadership.
Siperia Mollie, along with other girls at Makerere University stormed the streets last week on Tuesday to protest the cumulative tuition increment at Makerere University. The group intended to march to State House and petition the president.
She was immediately suspended from the university on allegations that she was inciting violence among students at the university and consequently waylaid by unknown people that beat her up and allegedly raped her. She is currently admitted in hospital.
