A total of 71 Makerere University students who are stranded in hostels yesterday received more food from well wishers led by Obed Obedgiu Derrick, the aspiring guild president of the Ivory Tower. The donation was the second phase of this initiative which targets to feed over 1000 students.
Yesterday, students from Kikoni and Kikumi Kikumi were spotted jubilating after receiving food items like Matooke. The students are currently staying in hostels as they wait for the reopening of universities which were closed in March over the COVID-19 scare.
In celebration of the Menstrual Health Day, female students also received sanitary equipment from Obed’s team. Yesterday’s donation was financed by fellow Makerere students including; Nyanjura Doreen, Nana Mwafrika, Hope Opoti, Andrew Muhimbise, Treicy Lynn, Anena Josephine and Mangeni Patricia.
It should be recalled that Obed recently held a press conference aimed at telling the media what these students are going through and how they can be helped. He was however arrested by Police shortly after addressing the press.
The aspiring leader has positioned himself as a student who cares for fellow students’ welfare. Obed is also remembered for participating in the 15% tuition increase strike which saw a number of students suspended including himself.
