On Saturday, Makerere University South Sudanese Students Association (MUSSA) threw a mega party to welcome fellow nationals who joined the University in August this year.
The glamorous event was held at Precious Gardens opposite Novia House on Sir Apollo Kaggwa road where over 90 South Sudanese gathered to initiate Fresher’s into the culture of Makerere University.
It was graced by South Sudan’s Member of Parliament to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Kim Gai Ruot Duop and Mak Academics Affairs Minister Ahmed Abdirahman, a Kenyan Somali student at Makerere University. Kim urged attendees to network if they are to get jobs most especially in Uganda adding that the economic integration among Countries that make up the East African Community will help South Sudanese to get jobs.
Ahmed on the other hand tipped international students to produce a candidate in the next guild elections at Uganda’s oldest University.
All attendants were donned in decent attire but some of the exceptional students were notably the former school of languages, literature and communication President, Balok Moses together with his successor, Ajwok Mary Valentino who grasped everyone’s attention.
Clad in his shining blue blazer, Balok was all over the event and forced the cameraman to keep tabs on him more do when he picked a babe and squeed her for close to 30 minutes. The event largely seemed a ‘meet and greet’ kind that reunited the South Sudanese community as Daniel Garang, the Association President intimated.
“This is an annual event where we feel at home. We unite and share moments.” He said.
Association President Daniel Garang Gives His Speech. Feasting, local music and drinking rocked the rest of the event. The organisers turned up with DJ Midnight who played South home made music that kept everyone smiling. The Sudanese people have a good taste of conserving their culture and this was exhibited at the Saturday event where all dances were of local origin.
