It is only believable that by now, most you have heard or read about the 20M that Members of Uganda’s Parliament decided to award themselves as members of the COVID-19 task force in their respective constituencies claiming that this money would be used to bring relief to their people during these hard times, a matter that has since then been seen as controversial with a certain section of Public viewing the MPs as nothing but a set of “Greedy Pigs”.
Fast forward, this money was released to their accounts and as of Yesterday, 26th April, 2010, the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga did confirm on twitter using her handle “@RebeccaKadagaUG” that she had donated Shs 40,000,000 to the people of Busoga which included the 20M they awarded themselves.
This attracted criticism from her followers with some claiming that she had disobeyed a lawful order of Court, depicted greed, assuming a role that the Constitution does not bestow upon Parliament.
These comments forced her son Mr. Timothy Kadaga who also doubles as Uganda Christian University’s Guild President to come out and defend the mother’s actions in a number of replies to the Public’s outcries using his Twitter handle “@timothy_kadaga.”
He stated that people need to think this through as the mother hadn’t pocketed any coin from the 20M cash bonanza but had only given back to the people what rightfully belongs to them. This made several people wonder and question whether UCU’s Guild President who happens to be a Law student at the same University had forgotten the roles of Parliament as an arm of Government.
