Universities and other tertiary institutions are set to resume on-campus business on November 20th this year, after over 2 months of closure, Campus Bee has learnt.
This, among other plans for the reopening will see physical education breathe back to life.
On condition of anonymity, a source who attended yesterday’s cabinet meeting aimed at revising lockdown measures with a section of officials from the Education ministry also revealed to Campus Bee that primary and secondary schools will have to wait longer adding that their reopening date has been set for January 10th, 2022.
“The meeting resolved to have the vaccination exercise heightened for teachers in schools before they reopen because of the projection of a looming covid-19 third wave. If the vaccination is achieved, then it will be much safer to have learners go back to school.” The source said.
“Another target for the vaccination are the parents of the learners who hold a high risk of infection and that way, we’ll be able to contain the virus in the event that it resurges.”
In a meeting prior to yesterday’s, the Prime Minister , Hon. Robbinah Nabbanja who met technocrats said primary and secondary schools would wait until 5 million Ugandans in priorities groups – teachers, health workers, members of the security forces and those aged 50 and above are vaccinated.
From the source’s information, this means that learners in secondary and primary are not stepping back to class this year.
The source further revealed that the President is expected to address the nation very soon, however didn’t reveal a specific date.
