Professor Barnabas Nawangwe, the Makerere University Vice Chancellor has come out to reveal that the currently circulating document that Campus Bee exclusively obtained was an internal memo, which was meant for only top officials. According to Nawangwe, the opening dates (for final year students) are still being discussed and no one should conclude it is the final decision.
The document in question indicates the Makerere University finalists will resume campus on 20th June following president Museveni’s directive to have all final-year scholars resume studies after staying home for over two months.
Through his social platforms, Nawangwe has warned that the information on the document was meant for only Management and Council adding that opening dates will depend on government’s guidelines.
“The public should note that these are only proposals that are yet to be discussed by Management and Council. The date for re-opening will depend on guidelines to be issued by government.” Part of Nawangwe’s statement reads.
The said memo circulated few hours after Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) announced 8TH June as their opening date for finalists.
Through the same platforms, Nawangwe further noted that the university is currently addressing the issue of Makerere Livingstone Hall residents (non-finalists) who were asked to remove their belongings and pave way for final-year students, currently termed as essential students.
Following several inquiries by parents and other stakeholders regarding the circular issued by the Warden of Livingstone Hall, I wish to clarify that all students residing in halls of residence were required to remove their property when vacating the halls when the university was closed. Most students removed their property . The isolated case at Livingstone Hall is being handled by management.” Nawangwe’s Facebook post reads.
