In an enclosed meeting held yesterday(June 25th) at State House amongst President Museveni, Minister of Education-Janet Kataha, Chairperson of Education Development Partners-Rudi Veetraeten among other officials, Ms Kataha revealed that e-learning (online learning) is the most needed solution for Universities and Tertiary institutions to accomplish the academic year amid COVID-19.
The meeting was held to discuss open issues about the National budget gaps in the sector and finding possible interventions for the same.
She however added that resources to support the e-learning such as good interconnectivity and devices are going to be required for the above cause to be a success, explaining that they would ease the teacher-student engagement.
It should be recalled that the Education Ministry, two weeks back, turned down the proposal of having the academic year cancelled, citing that it would clog the promotion and progress of the learners hence affecting the whole education system.
Various Universities have since then adopted online learning during the pandemic and many more gearing up for the same such as Kyambogo University, Makerere University, ISBAT University, Law Development Centre (LDC) among others.
However, a section of students from the above universities oppose the e-learning saying, it’s unfair to the disadvantaged students like those without gadgets, and as well, those in areas with poor networks.
And now that President Museveni closed schools indefinitely, the question still stands, is it going to be online learning or a dead year? Stick around as we’ll keep you posted with all the developments.
