Kiira Motors Company has loomed to sue Dr. Jeremy Ntambi, a former Makerere University student who earlier last week came out to claim that the Kiira EV Project idea was his own.
The company came out to refute Ntambi’s claims clearly stating the origin of the Kiira Motors project and warned Ntambi of dire consequences if he doesn’t withdraw his statements.
In a statement issued, Kiira Motors says during his time at University, Dr. Ntambi approached Isaac Musasizi, an assistant lecturer to help supervise the project after his initial supervisor, Dr. Tom Wanyama suddenly left Makerere University.
The statement also says that Ntambi was advised to focus on the component of Vision 200 power electronics as his final year project. As the the idea of research center for transportation technologies started taking shape, Ntambi and other student colleagues left because they had finished their studies.
The statement further adds that at the launch of Kiira EV, Ntambi had left Makerere long time ago.
“With funding secured and work progressing, Ntambi returned from a Masters Programme abroad and suddenly sent an email that the current team lead by Paul Musasizi should leave and he takes over the project. Ntambi has no basis for this demand as he had no formal engagement either as a student or staff of Makerere. Ntambi went to Facebook and started mudslinging the team working on Kiira vehicles” the statement reads in part.
The company now insists that if Ntambi doesn’t withdraw his claims, he will be dragged to court of law.
