Edson Rugumayo, a student of Quantity Surveying at Makerere University has been tipped by political observers in Uganda’s western region as a favourite for the highly coveted Western Youth Member of Parliament (MP) seat after he declared intentions to represent.
Rugumayo, was in 2015 voted to the position of Secretary for External Affairs at the National Youth Council of Uganda (2015-2021), a position he jointly served in as Youth Chairman of Ntoroko District in Western Uganda.
He has been hailed by observers as one whose time at the NYC has been purely to promote the affairs of the Youth in the country and hailing from Ntoroko, observers in the West said he prioritised the region while lobbying for youth developmental ventures.
“While at the Council he engaged in International Youth advocacy and policy analysis putting his emphasis on the need for increased access to internet in Africa as a continent, the need for laws to enable recruitment training of youth workers and the establishment of independent and self sustaining youth councils.” Godfrey Mugisha a youth leader from Ibanda observed.
He was instrumental in shaping the young generation at national and the international level where he ably represented Uganda at various International fora and successfully organised the Commonwealth youth leaders forum under the theme Resourcing and financing Youth Development: Empowering Youth, from the (31st July – 1st August2017) at Munyonyo Commonwealth Resort in Kampala Uganda.
Edson Rugumayo was born on 6th June 1994 in Ntoroko district in Western Uganda. He attended primary at Ngabi Primary School and later joined Ntare School for his “O” and “A” levels.
He is a former President of the Ntoroko Students Association at Makerere University, a staunch National Resistance Movement (NRM) cadre with a line of other educational milestones such as pursuance of a Certificate in Planning for Developing Countries at the University of Fujian China and a Certificate in Leadership from the National Leadership Institute, Kyankwanzi.
Rugumayo is centering his campaign around core values of integrity, honesty, accountability, modesty and being visionary.
