The Vice Chancellor of Makerere University Prof Barnabas Nawangwe has issued a warning letter to the Guild President Julius Kateregga over what he termed as ‘acts of hooliganism’ by students led by the latter in early morning jogging sessions.
In the letter that is dated 21st June, the Architecture professor expresses his disappointment in Kateregga for agreeing to terms of working with the administration while meeting them and later going around to lead students in acts meant to belittle and deny the said terms.
In the letter, Nawangwe pins Kateregga for leading a group of students who ran around the university shouting obscenities and disturbing the peace of the people and communities around the university. He says, Kateregga led this group on the morning of 20th June, 2019.
He further went on to release information that Kateregga met the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration over internship allowances and that the latter explained to him the progress of the money and why it was delaying but to the disappointment of the administration, the guild president led demonstrating students over the same issue.
“I wish to urge you to practice mature and progressive leadership and to contribute to efforts to make Makerere great again. Needless to say, acts of hooliganism will not be tolerated at Makerere University”, the vice chancellor ended thus in his letter.
