In a notice published in the local dailies, the Parliament of Uganda is inviting testimonies from students of Makerere University regarding the demonstrations that took place in October last year.
The testimonies are in respect to sexual violence committed by what the announcement is calling “men and women in uniform” on any Member of the Makerere University Students Community who was sexually assaulted by Men and Women in Uniform during the Students Demonstration in October 2019” the public notice reads in part.
The invitation is being made against a backdrop of the parliamentary sitting that took place on the 11th December 2019 after a report was submitted by the Committee on Education and Sports together with a minority report on the directives for the “House to investigate allegations of sexual abuse on students by men and women in uniform. The testimonies will also be in respect of the mismanagement and abdication of duty by the university management.
In the above report, an observation was on the “breadth and depth of coverage of the term of reference” as none exhaustive and requiring further investigations for which the testimonies will help shed more light.

A deadline to receive the testimony has been set for Saturday 22nd February 2020 for the affected parties to speak up do that the actions of the police and other uniformed men and women do not go with impunity.
