David Musiri, a Makerere University student pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce (B.COM) has today been denied the flag to represent the National Unity Platform (NUP) in the 2021 general elections.
After re-evaluation, the party decided to give the flag to the incumbent Allan Ssewanyana who was previously an independent but leaning on the Democratic Party (DP).
Campus Bee has been closely following the student leaders participating in active politics and today, the Executive Board of the National Unity Platform has passed the results of 15 constituencies in the Central Region which were subjected to re-evaluation.
Musiri joins other young politicians that were denied NUP flags, the latest being Roy Ssemboga, a former Makerere Guild President. Other student leaders who failed to secure the flag include; Makerere’s Julius Kateregga, Kyambogo’s Jonathan Tundulu, among others.
Musiri has been a strong force on ground for the youth and his loyalty to People Power/NUP has sent him to jail several times. Musiri spent a couple of days behind bars for publicly condemning the involvement of Police in the just concluded Youth elections.
He was however released yesterday but sadly he did not secure the ticket to represent the party. The people power diehard is expected to announce his next move on whether he will run independently or he will support Ssewanyana.
According to Julius Kateregga’s recent post, Musiri’s release was greatly favored by the presence of his rumored lover, Dr. Stella Nyanzi.
“Yesterday in pursuit of Comrade Musiri David’s freedom. I linked up with Dr. Stella Nyanzi and her political assistant and my long time friend and political strategist Rugumayo Kusemererwa at KABALAGALA Police Station and I must say They lit up my afternoon catching up with Old memories and actually Stella’s presence greatly hastened the release of Comrade Musiri David.” Kateregga wrote.
