The People Power students wing has today morning held a press conference to address issues related to COVID-19, most especially the education sector. The leaders have threatened to go back to class if the government continues to insist on online studies citing they have enough knowledge to prevent the virus.
According to these leaders, there are so many students who have no smart phones, no electricity and no laptops, which hinders a balanced education. They also wondered how the government will enforce practical classes through e-learning. Their complaints have come following the Minister of Education’s recent address that called for e-learning.
“As university students, we are educated enough to live with the corona virus. We will not condone a dead year that the Ministry of Education is planning. At any time we will put on our gowns back to class and we are ready to social distance.’’ One of the student leaders, who dint introduce himself said.
Also present at the presser was Kirabo Marion, a Makerere student who condemned the brutality of Ugandans by security operatives during this COVID-19 Lockdown. Kirabo highlighted on the death of a third-year Makerere University student who was allegedly brutalized by LDUs on his way from church last week.
“ It is unfortunate they have gone ahead to abuse their power by torturing Ugandans. We lost Emanuel Tegu when he was coming from church.” Kirabo said.
The group has also threatened to strike if Roy Ssemboga, a former Makerere University guild president is not released by Wednesday. Ssemboga was arrested last week in Mulago over unclear reasons.
